The Hayward SX180HG is the drain cap and gasket for Hayward sand filters built 2005 and prior. It is the genuine Hayward part and comes with its gasket.
Identifying the right one
Hayward changed this part for filters built from 2006 onward, and the two are not interchangeable. The way to tell is the stamp: S-180-H is molded into the back of this cap. If your old cap carries that mark, this is the replacement.

Why it fails
The drain cap is opened once a year at most, usually to winterize, and then torqued back down onto a gasket that has been sitting compressed since the last time. The rubber takes a set and stops sealing, and the plastic threads crack if the cap was ever forced or left out in a freeze. Because both failures look the same from outside, the cap and gasket are sold as one part.
