Product details

The Hayward SX180HG is the drain cap and gasket for Hayward sand filters built 2005 and prior. It is the genuine Hayward part and comes with its gasket.

Identifying the right one

Hayward changed this part for filters built from 2006 onward, and the two are not interchangeable. The way to tell is the stamp: S-180-H is molded into the back of this cap. If your old cap carries that mark, this is the replacement.

Pro Series side mount S-210S, S-220S, S-244S, S-310S and S-360S; Pro Series Plus side mount S-311SX, S-311SXV and S-360SX; Pro Series top mount S-140T, S-144T, S-164T, S-166T, S-270T2, S-310T and S-310T2; and E-Series top mount E-100, E-200 and E-250.

Why it fails

The drain cap is opened once a year at most, usually to winterize, and then torqued back down onto a gasket that has been sitting compressed since the last time. The rubber takes a set and stops sealing, and the plastic threads crack if the cap was ever forced or left out in a freeze. Because both failures look the same from outside, the cap and gasket are sold as one part.

How do I know I need the 2005 and prior version?
Turn the old cap over. This one has S-180-H stamped into the back. Filters built from 2006 onward use a different drain cap assembly, which is a separate part.
Does the gasket come with it?
Yes. SX180HG is the drain cap and its gasket together.

My drain cap drips after winterizing. Is the cap or the gasket the problem?
It can be either, which is why they are sold together. The gasket flattens and hardens over years, and the cap threads crack if it has ever been overtightened or left in freezing weather.
