Product details

The Hayward SX200Z6 is the tank o-ring for the S-200 and S-240 side mount sand filters and the two piece top mount S160T. It is the genuine Hayward part.

Size

Inside diameter 6-1/2 in., thickness 3/16 in. If you are measuring an old ring to confirm, allow for the fact that a ring which has taken a set reads slightly larger and thinner than the figures above.

When to replace it

An o-ring is a simple round gasket that seals two machined faces against each other. Here it seals the filter tank joint. Over the seasons the rubber hardens, flattens and loses its spring, and the joint begins to weep under pressure. A new ring is the fix, and because the tank has to be opened to change sand anyway, most techs replace it as part of a media change.

Fitting

Clean both sealing faces, seat the ring square in its groove without stretching it, and use a silicone based o-ring lubricant. Petroleum grease attacks the rubber and shortens the life of the seal.

It is the first thing to change. The ring hardens and flattens over the seasons and stops sealing the tank joint. If the leak persists, look at the clamp and the sealing faces.
What lubricant should I use?
A silicone based o-ring lubricant. Petroleum grease swells and degrades the rubber.
