Product details

The Hayward SX200Z9 is the drain cap gasket for the S240, S200, S245T, S190T and EasyClear filters. It is the genuine Hayward part.

What it seals

The drain cap at the bottom of a filter tank does not seal on its threads. It seals on this gasket, squeezed between the cap and the tank. That is why a tank can be bone dry all season and then start dripping at the drain: the rubber has taken a set, gone hard, or picked up a nick from grit on the sealing face.

Fitting it

Clean the seat before the new gasket goes on. A single grain of sand or a ridge of old rubber left on the face will hold the gasket open and put you right back where you started. A light film of silicone lubricant helps the gasket seat and makes the cap easier to remove next season. Avoid petroleum greases on rubber seals; they swell the material and shorten its life.

Because the cap comes off at every winterization, it is worth keeping one of these in the parts box rather than discovering the old gasket is finished on the day you are closing the pool.

Which filters does it fit?
Hayward lists it for the S240, S200, S245T, S190T and EasyClear filters.
My drain cap drips even when tight. Is this the fix?
Usually yes. A drain cap seals on its gasket, so once the gasket is flattened or nicked, tightening the cap harder will not close the leak and can crack the cap.
Should I lubricate it?
A thin film of silicone lubricant on a rubber seal helps it seat and makes it easier to remove next time. Do not use a petroleum based grease, which swells and degrades the rubber.
Is it worth replacing when I winterize?
It is a sensible habit. The cap comes off every autumn anyway, and a gasket that has been compressed all season is the one most likely to seep when you close the tank back up.
