Product details

The Pentair 191474Z is the drain plug o-ring for Clean and Clear Plus cartridge filters. It measures 1-3/4 in. inside diameter by 2 in. outside diameter by 1/8 in. thick, and it is the genuine Pentair rubber part.

Which filters

Pentair specifies it for Clean and Clear Plus filters manufactured after 5/21/05, and lists the same ring among the Mytilus B fiberglass cartridge filter parts. Check the build date on the tank label if your filter is older.

Why the drain drips

The drain plug is opened every time the filter is winterized or the tank is drained for a cartridge clean, and each cycle works the o-ring a little harder. Once the rubber has hardened and taken a set, it cannot fill the gap between the plug and the tank, and no amount of extra torque will make it. It just risks cracking the plug or the boss it threads into.

Fitting

Clean the seat, fit the new ring and add a light coat of silicone o-ring lubricant so it seats evenly and does not twist as the plug goes back in.

What size is this o-ring?
1-3/4 in. inside diameter, 2 in. outside diameter and 1/8 in. thick.
Which filters use it?
Pentair Clean and Clear Plus cartridge filters, and it is also listed among the Mytilus B fiberglass cartridge filter parts. It applies to filters manufactured after 5/21/05.
My drain plug drips even when it is tight. Why?
Because tightening does not fix a hardened o-ring. Rubber flattens and loses its spring, and once it does it will not fill the gap between the plug and the tank at any torque. Replace the ring.
Should I lubricate it?
A light coat of silicone based o-ring lubricant helps the ring seat and keeps it from twisting as the plug is threaded in.
