Product details

The Pentair 192019 is the genuine drain plug wrench for Pentair filter tanks, made in metal and shaped to the plug it turns.

What it is for

Every filter tank has a drain plug at the bottom. It comes out to drain the tank for service and again at closing so nothing freezes inside, and it goes back in for the season. That plug spends months untouched in a wet, sunny, chemical environment, and it does not always want to come out when asked.

Why the right tool matters

The usual improvised approach is pliers or a pipe wrench, and the usual result is a rounded plug that no longer has anything to grip. Drilling or cutting a seized plug out of a filter tank is a genuinely bad afternoon. The correct wrench spreads its grip on the plug and lets you break it loose without chewing it up. Pentair lists this wrench with both the Clean and Clear Plus cartridge filter parts and the PacFab FNS Plus DE filter parts, so check it against your own plug if your filter is a different model.

Why not just use pliers?
Pliers slip and round off the flats on the plug. Once that happens the plug has to be drilled or cut out, which turns a two minute job into an afternoon.
