Product details

The Pentair 170028 is the air bleed tube assembly for the Clean and Clear Plus 420 square foot cartridge filter. It is the genuine Pentair part, listed for filters built after 11/98.

What it does

Air collects at the top of a cartridge filter tank every time the system is opened or the water level drops. The air bleed tube gives that air a path up to the manual relief valve so it can be purged when the pump restarts. A cracked or missing tube leaves air trapped inside, which reads as high gauge pressure and weak flow back to the pool even though the cartridges are clean.

Before you order

Check the filter size on the label. Pentair uses a different air bleed assembly for the 320 square foot filter and another for the 500 square foot filter, and this one is the 420. Also confirm the tank was built after 11/98, since earlier tanks use a different internal arrangement.

Which filter does this fit?
The Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 420 square foot cartridge filter, units built after 11/98.
Will it fit the 320 square foot filter?
No. The 320 uses its own air bleed assembly, and there is a separate 500 square foot version as well, so order by filter size.
What does the air bleed tube do?
It carries air trapped at the top of the tank to the relief valve so it can be purged. Without it, air stays in the tank and shows up as high pressure and weak return flow.
Does the air relief valve come with it?
No. The manual air relief valve is a separate Pentair part.
