Product details
The Pentair 190039 is the genuine baffle bulkhead assembly for Clean and Clear Plus cartridge filters. Pentair lists this version for filters manufactured after 11/98.
What the baffle does
Water entering a cartridge filter arrives as a concentrated jet at the inlet. The baffle bulkhead takes that jet and spreads it around the inside of the tank so the flow reaches the whole element pack instead of hammering one face of one cartridge. When the baffle is broken or missing, the cartridges nearest the inlet load and wear far faster than the rest, and the filter needs cleaning more often than the surface area suggests it should.
Check the build date
Pentair changed this part partway through the Clean and Clear Plus production run. This is the assembly for filters built after 11/98, so read the date on the tank label rather than ordering on the model name alone.
