The Pentair 59053700 is the center filter core for Clean and Clear and Clean and Clear Predator cartridge filters. It is the genuine Pentair part.

What the core does

Inside a cartridge filter the elements seat around a central core. The core holds them square in the tank and keeps the dirty side and the clean side apart. When it cracks or distorts, water finds the short route past the cartridges and the filter stops doing much, even with new elements fitted.

What does the center core actually do?
The cartridges seat around it inside the tank. It holds them in position and keeps filtered and unfiltered water separated, so a cracked core lets water bypass the elements.
Does it fit the 125 sq ft filter as well as the 100?
