The Pentair 178553 is the almond colored lid for 50 and 100 square foot cartridge filters. It is the genuine Pentair replacement, the same lid the filters were built with.

Why lids get replaced

The lid sits in full sun and takes the pressure cycling every time the pump starts and stops. Over the years the plastic hazes, then crazes, then splits, usually around the clamp seat or the air relief boss. A cracked lid weeps under pressure and can let air into the system, so it gets swapped long before the tank body is worn out.
