Product details

The Pentair 194801Z is a 2 inch filter bulkhead fitting with buttress threads, the genuine Pentair part. It is listed for the Clean and Clear Plus cartridge filters and the FNS Plus DE filters.

Why the thread form matters

A buttress thread is coarse and asymmetric, designed to hold under load on a molded plastic tank port. It is not the same as pipe thread and the two do not interchange. Trying to force a standard fitting into a buttress port distorts the port and turns a cheap repair into a tank replacement.

The symptom it fixes

A slow weep where the plumbing enters the filter is usually the bulkhead, not the tank. Age, over tightening, and freeze damage all crack these fittings, and once the sealing face is distorted no amount of thread sealant will hold it. Replacing the bulkhead puts the sealing surface back.
