Product details

The Hayward CX4000Z3 is the air relief tube assembly used in the SwimClear and Super Star Clear cartridge filters. It is the genuine Hayward part and arrives as a complete assembly.

What it does

Air collects at the top of a filter tank every time the system is opened or loses prime. The relief tube gives that air a route from the highest point in the tank to the relief valve on the lid, so opening the valve actually purges it. Without the tube, the valve only bleeds what happens to be right beneath it.

Why it matters

A pocket of trapped air takes up space that water should be occupying, which cuts the working area of the cartridges and makes the pressure gauge tell you something other than the truth about cartridge condition. That leads to filters getting cleaned or cartridges being replaced when the real problem was air.
