Product details

The Hayward CX1100Z4 is the plastic air relief tube used in the C1200, C1100, S244S and S311 filters. It is the genuine Hayward replacement.

Why it matters

Every filter traps some air at the top of the tank when it refills. The relief tube is the path that air takes to reach the manual relief valve on the lid. If the tube is cracked, snapped or missing, the valve vents from the wrong place, air stays trapped, the pressure gauge reads high and the filter never runs at its proper flow.

Fitting

The tube sits under the filter head, so the lid has to come off to reach it. It is a good time to look over the head o-ring, since it is already exposed and it is the other common cause of a filter that will not hold pressure.

What does the air relief tube actually do?
It reaches up into the top of the filter tank and gives trapped air a path out to the manual air relief valve on the lid, so the tank fills with water rather than holding a pocket of air.
Which filters does it fit?
Hayward C1200, C1100, S244S and S311.
Why does my relief valve blow water but the gauge still reads high?
Often the tube itself has cracked or come adrift, so the valve is venting the wrong part of the tank and the air pocket stays put. A new tube restores the correct vent path.
Is it the same as the manual air relief valve?
No. The valve sits in the filter head and is a separate Hayward part. This is the tube that runs from the valve down into the tank.
