The Hayward CXRLV1001 is the manual air relief assembly for SwimClear cartridge filters, supplied complete with its O-ring. It is the genuine Hayward part.
What it does
Air gathers at the top of a cartridge tank whenever the filter is opened, the water level falls or the pump loses prime. The relief valve on the filter head is how you let that air out. Until the air is gone the tank is not full of water, the pressure gauge does not read the filter honestly, and the lid takes a hard shove every time the pump restarts.
Why it fails
The relief sits on the highest, most exposed point of the filter, so it takes full sun and every temperature swing the equipment pad gets. The plastic goes brittle and the O-ring flattens, and the valve starts to weep, seize or refuse to seal once it is closed. At that point the assembly is replaced rather than repaired.
