Product details

The Hayward CX250Z14A is the 1/2 in. drain plug for Star Clear filter tanks, supplied with its O-ring. It is the genuine Hayward part.

Why it leaks

The drain plug sits at the bottom of the filter and gets opened every time the tank is drained for a cartridge clean. The O-ring takes that cycling, plus season after season of chemistry and sun, and eventually flattens or splits. What you see is a slow weep at the base of the filter that never quite stops, and that no amount of extra tightening cures.

Fitting it

Hayward lists this plug across the Star Clear, Star-Clear II and Star Clear Plus cartridge filters and the Pro Grid DE separation tank, so check your model against the fits list. Go in hand tight with a lightly lubricated O-ring. Plastic threads do not forgive a wrench.

Does the O-ring come with it?
Yes. The plug is supplied with its O-ring.
Which filters does it fit?
Hayward lists it across the Star Clear range, the Star-Clear II and Star Clear Plus models, and the Pro Grid DE separation tank. Check the model plate on your filter against the fits list.
My drain port drips. Is this the part?
Usually. A slow weep at the drain is almost always a flattened or cracked O-ring on the plug, and replacing the plug and seal together is the reliable fix.
How tight should it go?
Hand tight, with a clean and lightly lubricated O-ring. Overtightening a plastic plug is how threads get stripped and how a small drip becomes a real leak.
