The pump application is limited to units built before 2003. Hayward changed the strainer cover on later NorthStar pumps, so confirm the manufacturing date before ordering rather than going by the model name alone.
What a tired o-ring costs you
On the pump, a hardened or split lid o-ring lets air into the suction side. The pump loses prime, runs noisy and moves less water, and people replace impellers and seals chasing a fault that lives in a ring worth a few dollars. On the filter, the same failure shows as a lid that weeps or sprays under pressure.
Fitting
Clean the groove, fit the ring dry of grit, and use a silicone based o-ring lubricant. That helps it seat evenly and stops it grabbing the lid the next time the lid comes off.
