What a bulkhead fitting does
Anywhere a pipe passes through the wall of a filter tank, something has to carry it and seal it. That is the bulkhead. It is not a glamorous part, but the whole tank depends on it holding, and when it fails the symptom is distinctive: water weeping around the port rather than running out of the plumbing itself.
