Product details

The Hayward SP1022C is the 1-1/2 in. threaded drain plug supplied with its o-ring, in white. It is the genuine Hayward part, and it also appears written as SP-1022-C.

Where it is used

This plug shows up across most of the Hayward line. Micro-Clear DE filters DE2400 through DE6000 and the stainless steel version, Pro-Grid DE2420 through DE7220, Super Star-Clear cartridge filters C-2000 through C-5500 and the stainless steel C3000S and C4000S, SwimClear C2020 through C7000 and the C2030 through C7030 range, XStream CC1000, CC1500 and CC2000, Perflex EC30, EC40, EC50, EC50C, EC50A and EC50AC, and Hayward skimmers.

The o-ring is the seal

The threads hold the plug in place, but the o-ring is what stops the water. When it hardens and flattens, the tank starts to weep at the drain no matter how tight the plug is turned, and cranking down harder only risks damage. Fitting a new plug with a fresh o-ring, with a light coat of silicone lubricant on the ring, ends the drip.

Look at the o-ring rather than the plug. Once it hardens and takes a set it will not seal no matter how hard the plug is turned, and overtightening only risks cracking the boss. A new plug with a fresh o-ring is the fix.
