Product details

The Hayward CX400BA is the filter head cover assembly for Easy-Clear C400 and C550 cartridge filters, supplied with its valve and locking ring. It is the genuine Hayward part.

What the head does

On an Easy-Clear, the head carries the plumbing connections and the valve, and the locking ring is what clamps it down onto the tank. It is the part that takes every pressure cycle the filter goes through, and the part that gets stressed every time somebody opens the filter to clean the cartridge.

Why a head gets replaced

Usually because the plastic has cracked around a port or the ring threads have been damaged by cross threading or over tightening. Neither fault can be sealed with a new o-ring, since an o-ring only works against an intact sealing surface. Replacing the head returns the filter to a clean, undamaged seal.

A note on the valve

The source describes the fitted valve two ways, as a check valve in the product title and as an air valve in the listing description. Both readings appear on the same part number, CX400BA, and the valve arrives fitted either way.
