Product details

The Hayward CX800C is the genuine replacement filter head for the Star-Clear II cartridge filter, covering the C800, C1100 and C1500 models. It measures 10-3/4 inches in diameter.

The air relief vent

The head cover carries an air relief vent screw. Trapped air in a filter tank stops water moving through the cartridge properly and can send the pressure gauge to readings that make no sense. The vent screw is how you bleed that air off at startup and after servicing.

When the head is the problem

Filter heads live in sun and heat and eventually craze. Once the plastic cracks or the sealing face is chewed up, the tank leaks under pressure and no amount of tightening the locking knob will fix it. The CX800C puts a fresh sealing surface back on the filter.

While you have it apart

The head o-ring, the locking knob and its o-ring are separate parts. If the head is coming off after several seasons, it is worth replacing the seals at the same time rather than opening the filter twice.

Why would I need a new filter head?
Filter heads craze and crack with age and UV exposure, and once the sealing surface is damaged the tank will not hold pressure. Replacing the head restores a proper seal.
