Product details
The Hayward CX250C is the Star-Clear filter head, the dome that closes the top of the cartridge filter tank. It is the genuine Hayward part and comes with the air relief valve already fitted.
What the head does
The dome takes the full working pressure of the filter and holds it against the tank body through the head gasket. The air relief valve mounted on it is what lets trapped air out after the filter has been opened for a cartridge clean.
When to replace it
A crack in the head, however fine, weeps under pressure and grows with every start and stop. If the top of the filter is leaking, replace the head gasket first, since a flat, hardened gasket is the more common cause. If it still leaks or the plastic is visibly cracked, the head itself has to come off.
