The Hayward ECX1322A is the manual air relief valve, supplied with its o-ring. It is the small bleed valve at the top of the filter that you open on startup to release trapped air.
Fitted across the Hayward range
Hayward uses the same relief valve on a large part of its filter line: the SwimClear cartridge filters, Star Clear, Star-Clear II and Star Clear Plus, the ASL and Microstar Clear filters, Easy-Clear, and on the DE side the Perflex range, ReGenX and Pro-Grid. That makes it a part worth keeping on the shelf if you look after several pools.
Why it matters
Air trapped in a filter tank keeps water from reaching the full filtering surface and makes the pressure gauge read something other than the truth. Bleeding it out at startup is basic practice, and the relief valve is the only way to do it.
The usual failure
The valve gets opened and closed constantly, so the stem and o-ring wear out before almost anything else on the filter head. The tell is a persistent drip or weep at the top of the tank that continues with the valve closed. Since the o-ring is included here, one part fixes it.
