Product details

The Hayward SX200Z4PAK2 is a two pack of valve and union o-rings used across several Hayward filter families. They are the genuine Hayward parts.

Which filters

Hayward lists this o-ring for the Super StarClear cartridge filter, the ProGrid and MicroClear vertical grid DE filters, ProSeries Plus, and ProSeries sand filters. Two come in the pack, which is useful because unions seal at each end and a spare on the shelf saves a second trip.

Why they leak

Union and valve o-rings sit compressed for years. The rubber hardens, takes a permanent set in the shape of the groove, and stops following the joint as it flexes. The result is a fitting that looks dry at rest and weeps the moment the pump starts and pressure comes up.

Fitting

Shut the system down and relieve pressure first. Clean the groove, check the sealing face for scoring, and seat the new o-ring lightly lubricated so it does not roll or pinch as the union is tightened.

My union drips when the pump starts. Is this the fix?
Usually. Shut the pump down, relieve pressure, break the union and look at the o-ring for flattening, cracks or a glazed surface. A hardened seal cannot follow the joint and it weeps under pressure.
