Fitting it
Clean the groove and the mating face before the new ring goes in, then use a silicone based O-ring lubricant so it seats evenly. Do not reuse the old ring. Rubber that has been compressed in a joint for years takes a permanent set, and once the joint is opened it rarely seals again.
