What it does

A tie rod is the threaded rod that pulls a filter assembly together and holds the internals in position once the tank is buttoned up. If it corrodes, bends or strips, the assembly cannot be clamped up square, and that shows as leaks, movement inside the tank or a filter that will not seal.
