Product details
The Hayward CX1100Z2 is the stainless steel center tie rod used in the Star-Clear cartridge filter line. It is the genuine Hayward part, sold on its own.
What the tie rod does
The rod runs up the middle of the filter and gives the locking knob something to pull against. That is what clamps the filter head onto the body and keeps the seal tight under pump pressure. Everything else at the top of the filter, the knob, the washer, the e-ring and the head o-ring, works off that one piece of steel.
When to replace it
If the threads are stretched, the rod is bent, or corrosion has thinned it, the head stops seating square and the filter starts weeping at the joint. Tightening the knob harder only makes it worse. A new rod puts the clamp back where it should be.
