Product details

The Hayward CX1100Z2 is the stainless steel center tie rod used in the Star-Clear cartridge filter line. It is the genuine Hayward part, sold on its own.

What the tie rod does

The rod runs up the middle of the filter and gives the locking knob something to pull against. That is what clamps the filter head onto the body and keeps the seal tight under pump pressure. Everything else at the top of the filter, the knob, the washer, the e-ring and the head o-ring, works off that one piece of steel.

When to replace it

If the threads are stretched, the rod is bent, or corrosion has thinned it, the head stops seating square and the filter starts weeping at the joint. Tightening the knob harder only makes it worse. A new rod puts the clamp back where it should be.

Hayward shows CX1100Z2 across the Star-Clear Plus C751, C900, C1200, C1750 and C1900 and the Star-Clear II C800, C1100 and C1500. Match the part against the diagram for your filter before you order.

Which filters does this rod fit?
The listing covers the Star-Clear Plus C1200 and the Star-Clear II C1100. Hayward also shows CX1100Z2 in the parts diagrams for the Star-Clear Plus C751, C900, C1750 and C1900 and the Star-Clear II C800 and C1500, so check your own diagram against the rod you are pulling out.
Is it stainless steel?
Yes. It is the Hayward OEM stainless steel center tie rod.
Does the locking knob come with it?
No. The locking knob, the knob washer and the e-ring are separate Hayward parts.
Why would a tie rod need replacing?
It carries the clamping load every time the filter is closed up. Once the threads are stretched, the rod is bent or corrosion has eaten into it, the head will not pull down square and the filter leaks at the joint.
