Product details

Hayward GLX-UNION-ORING is the replacement o-ring for the T-CELL union, the seal that sits inside the union nut where the salt cell meets the plumbing.

The usual leak

When a salt cell drips at the union, the o-ring is almost always the reason. The ring hardens with heat and chemistry, takes a set from being clamped, or picks up a nick when the cell is pulled for cleaning. Once that happens, tightening the union further does not stop the water, it only stresses the plastic.

When to change them

The cheapest time to replace these is while the cell is already out. Change them at every cell cleaning and the union stops being a recurring problem. Use a lubricant intended for pool o-rings, not petroleum grease, which breaks the rubber down.

Usually. Once the o-ring has hardened, flattened or nicked, the union will weep no matter how tight it is pulled up.
Should I lubricate it?
Use a lubricant made for pool o-rings. Petroleum grease attacks the rubber and shortens the life of the seal.
