Product details

Sta-Rite 24206-0103S is the air release valve for PXC series filter systems, the System:2 PLDE modular media filter and the Posi-Clear cartridge filter. It is supplied as the air vent stem assembly with its o-ring included.

What the valve is for

Every time a filter tank is opened and closed it takes on air, and that air collects at the top of the tank where it cannot be pushed out by flow alone. The air release valve is the vent that lets it go. Skip that step and the filter runs with a pocket of compressed air above the media, which makes the pressure gauge read oddly and the tank surge.

Why the assembly and not just a seal

The usual failure is the o-ring on the stem going hard, at which point the valve either sprays whenever the pump runs or refuses to open at all. Because the valve and its o-ring come together here, the whole sealing surface is replaced at once rather than fitting a new ring onto a stem that has already been scored.

Do I have to bleed air after servicing the filter?
Yes. Air trapped in the tank after the lid goes back on has to come out through this valve before the filter can do its job, and running with air in the tank is what makes a filter surge.
