The Sta-Rite 24800-0121 is the air bleed assembly for System 2 Modular Media PLM series cartridge filters. It is the manual air relief that sits on top of the filter tank.
What it does
Air collects at the top of a filter tank every time the system is opened or the water level drops. Trapped air stops the tank filling properly and makes the pressure gauge read badly, so the bleeder gives you a way to let it out until water comes through. Because it lives at the highest point of a pressurized vessel, it is also the piece that shows its age first: a cracked body or a worn seal turns up as a drip or a thin spray whenever the pump runs.
