Product details

The Sta-Rite 25010-0200 is the complete air relief valve assembly for PLD and PTM filter systems. The same valve is listed in the Posi-Flo II PTM and System 2 Modular Media PLM parts listings.

Why the filter needs it

Air gets into the tank every time the system is opened, primed or restarted. It gathers at the top, where it takes up volume that should be full of water. That means less media in contact with flow, less filtration for the same run time and a pressure gauge that no longer tells you the truth about the filter. Opening the relief valve on startup pushes that air out until water shows, and then it has to close and stay closed.

When to replace it

A valve that drips once the system is up to pressure, one that will not seat no matter how far it is turned, or one that has seized in place. Those are all wear at the seal and the seat, and they are fixed by changing the assembly rather than tightening it further.

Fitting

Shut the pump off and let the system pressure drop to zero before removing the old valve. Working on a pressurized filter is how lids and valve bodies get launched.

Which filters does this fit?
Sta-Rite lists it for the PLD and PTM filter systems. The same valve also appears in the Posi-Flo II PTM-50, 70, 100 and 135 and System 2 Modular Media PLM100 and PLM150 parts listings.
What does the air relief valve do?
It lets trapped air escape from the top of the filter tank. Air pushed into the tank on startup takes up space the water should occupy, so filtration drops and pressure readings become unreliable until it is bled out.
Mine drips constantly, is that normal?
No. A relief valve should hold once it is closed. A steady drip means the seat or the seal is worn, which is what this assembly replaces.
Is it a full assembly or just the seal?
It is the complete air relief valve assembly.
