Product details

The Sta-Rite 27001-0060S is the genuine tank o-ring for filters built before February 1997. It is listed for the System 2 modular media PLM100 and PLM150, and is also carried for the AquaTools permanent media AT84100 and AT84150 and DE AT8230 to AT8236 filters.

Check the date first

This is the single thing to get right on this part. Sta-Rite changed the tank o-ring in February 1997. Tanks built before that date take this one; tanks built after take a different o-ring and the two will not substitute for each other. Go by the build date stamped on the filter rather than by when the pool was put in, since filters get replaced without the pool changing.

Fitting

The tank o-ring seals the two halves of the filter shell, and it is under pressure every time the pump runs. Clean the groove and the sealing face properly, seat the new ring without twisting it, and dress it with a silicone based lubricant made for pool o-rings. Petroleum grease softens the rubber and will have you back at the same job next season.

How do I know if I need the before 2/97 o-ring or the later one?
Go by the build date of the filter, not the age of the pool. Tanks made before February 1997 take this o-ring. Later tanks use a different one, and the two are not interchangeable.

What lubricant should I use?
A silicone based lubricant made for pool o-rings. Petroleum greases swell and soften the rubber and will shorten the life of the seal.
My filter weeps at the band clamp. Is the o-ring the cause?
Usually. A tank o-ring that has flattened, hardened or picked up grit will not seal against the pressure the pump makes, and the drip appears at the split line as soon as the pump starts.
