Quick overview

  • Bulkhead assembly seal The o-ring that seals the bulkhead assembly, where a leak shows up as water at the filter body.
  • Sized 3-3/4 in. ID Inside diameter of 3-3/4 in. with a 3/16 in. cross section, the two numbers that decide whether an o-ring seals.
  • Sta-Rite 35505-1425 The factory part number, so there is no guessing at a generic ring.
  • System 3 filters Listed for the Sta-Rite System 3 sand and cartridge filter families.
  • Cheap insurance An o-ring costs a fraction of the service call that follows a slow leak nobody chased.
  • Change it while you are in there Any time the bulkhead comes apart is the time to fit a new ring rather than reuse a flattened one.

Product details

Sta-Rite part 35505-1425 is the o-ring for the bulkhead assembly, 3-3/4 in. inside diameter with a 3/16 in. cross section.

Getting the size right

An o-ring is defined by two numbers, the inside diameter and the cross section. Match both. A ring that is the right diameter but thinner than the original will not fill the groove, and the joint will weep under pressure even though the ring looks correct.

Where it is used

It is listed for the Sta-Rite System 3 filter family, covering the S7S50 and S8S70 sand filters and the S7M120, S8M150, S7M400 and S8M500 cartridge filters. If the bulkhead is coming apart for any reason, fit the new ring rather than reusing one that has taken a set in the groove.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What size is this o-ring?
3-3/4 in. inside diameter with a 3/16 in. cross section. Both numbers matter, since a ring of the right diameter in the wrong thickness will still leak.
Which filters does it fit?
It is listed for the Sta-Rite System 3 sand filters S7S50 and S8S70 and the System 3 cartridge filters S7M120, S8M150, S7M400 and S8M500.
Where does it sit?
On the bulkhead assembly. That is the connection point where water enters and leaves the filter body.
Should I lubricate it?
A pool rated o-ring lubricant helps the ring seat evenly and makes the next disassembly easier. Petroleum grease is not the right choice on pool o-rings.
