The Sta-Rite 24800-0120 is the genuine air bleed assembly, the relief fitting that vents air trapped at the top of a filter tank.
Why bleeding matters
Every time a filter is opened, or the pump loses prime, air collects at the top of the tank. That air displaces water, so less of the media is actually doing work, and the pressure gauge reads something that does not reflect what is happening inside. Opening the air bleed until water runs steadily is what clears it.
When to replace it
Air bleeds corrode in place and seize, and the stem frequently snaps when someone leans on one that has not moved in several seasons. A bleed that weeps continuously or will not close is worth replacing rather than working around.
