This is the Sta-Rite 25021-0101 baffle and bulkhead fitting, the part used inside the System 3 SM cartridge filter. It fits the S7M120, S7M400, S8M150 and S8M500 models.
What it does
The bulkhead is the port that carries water through the filter tank wall, and the baffle spreads that flow across the cartridge instead of letting it blast one spot. When the fitting cracks or works loose, the symptoms are usually a weep at the tank or dirty water finding its way past the element, and both look like other problems until the tank is opened.
Before you order
You reach this fitting only with the filter apart, so plan the job around a full teardown. The bulkhead o-ring and the retaining nut are separate parts. Both are cheap and both are easier to replace now than a season from now.
