The Pentair 355334 is the hex head screw that holds the diffuser in place inside the pump. It is an 8-32 x 1/2 inch hex washer head screw, supplied as the genuine Pentair part.
What it does
The diffuser sits over the impeller and directs flow into the volute. It has to be clamped down square, and the wide washer face on this screw spreads the load across the plastic so the diffuser seats evenly instead of pulling into one point.
When to replace it
Pool pump hardware lives in a wet, chemical rich environment. Screws corrode, heads round off, and threads gall on removal. If you already have the pump open for a mechanical seal, an impeller or a diffuser, new screws cost very little and save a second trip to the equipment pad.
