Product details

The SuperPro FC-1977 is a 105 sq ft replacement filter cartridge for the Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 420. Four of them fill the tank, which is how a filter built from 105 sq ft elements comes to be called a 420.

Buy the set

Cartridge filters are designed around a matched set. When one new element sits alongside three that have flattened pleats and packed media, water takes the path of least resistance and loads the new cartridge far harder than the rest. Replacing all four at once keeps the flow even across the tank and gets the run time you expect.

When to replace

The usual signal is pressure. If the filter climbs back to its cleaning threshold soon after a wash, or if a soak no longer brings the starting pressure down to where it used to sit, the media is worn out rather than dirty. Torn pleats, a collapsed core or split end caps all call for replacement regardless of pressure.

Fitting

Each cartridge drops into the same manifold position the original came out of, so the set goes back the way it came apart.
