The SuperPro FC-1291 is a 100 square foot pool filter cartridge, sold as the replacement for the CX1000RE element and catalogued with Hayward Star-Clear cartridge filter parts.

Check the size before you order

Cartridge filters are sized by filter area, and this one is 100 square feet. The square footage and the original part number are usually printed on the end cap of the element that is already in the tank. Match both before ordering, because Star-Clear filters were sold in several sizes and only one of them takes this cartridge.

Cleaning and replacing

Cartridges do not last forever. Clean when the pressure gauge sits roughly 8 to 10 psi above the reading you get with a fresh element. Rinse the pleats out one at a time with a hose, then soak in a cartridge cleaner, because oils and scale do not rinse off. When the pleats stay matted, the fabric goes thin, or a full cleaning no longer restores pressure, the element is finished.

A note on spares

Keeping a second cartridge on hand lets you swap in the clean one and give the dirty one time to soak and dry properly. It is the difference between cleaning a cartridge and rinsing it.
