How a cartridge earns its keep

Filter area is what buys you run time between cleanings. A 100 square foot element holds a large amount of dirt before the pressure gauge starts climbing, which is why matching the rated area of the original matters more than the price of any one cartridge. Undersizing an element shortens the interval between cleanings and works the pump harder.

Care

Wash the element when pressure rises above its clean starting point. Spread the pleats with water pressure or a dedicated cartridge cleaner rather than a brush, since scrubbing drives dirt into the media and flattens the folds. When a cleaned cartridge will no longer come back to normal pressure, the media is done and it is time for a new one.
