Pick a CaliMar pump by its ports before its horsepower. The CMARVSP line comes in 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 HP with 2 inch ports, and the CMAR15VS1.5 is the one built with 1.5 inch ports. Every model here wants a 230 volt single phase supply and turns anywhere from 450 to 3450 RPM. If an automation panel needs to choose the speed, look at the CaliFlow, whose manual wires relay and RS485 control on its external control models.
The CaliMar CMARVSP range in four horsepower ratings, the CMAR15VS1.5 for 1.5 inch plumbing, and the CaliFlow CMARCFVSP2010. All six are variable speed inground pumps with a totally enclosed, fan cooled (TEFC) motor and a see-through strainer lid, by CaliMar's manuals.

Will a CaliMar variable speed pump run on 115 volts?
No. Both CaliMar manuals list 230 volts, single phase, 50 or 60 Hz, for every size, from the 1 HP drawing 5.5 amps up to the 3 HP at 10 amps. A pad wired for 115 volts needs the circuit changed by an electrician first, or a pump that accepts 115. The manual also asks for a permanent connection through a breaker, a two pole timer or a two pole relay rather than a plug.
Which CaliMar pump fits 1.5 inch pool plumbing?
The CMAR15VS1.5, which has 1.5 by 1.5 inch ports. CaliMar's parts list gives it the same motor, drive and impeller as the 1 HP CMARVSP1.0; the housing is what differs. The CMARVSP and CaliFlow models all have 2 by 2 inch ports. CaliMar's manual also asks for a straight run of pipe five diameters long ahead of the inlet, with no elbow fitted directly to it.
What speeds is a CaliMar pump set to out of the box?
The CMARVSP manual gives a four step day: 3000 RPM for two hours from 8 am, then 1500 RPM for ten hours, 2500 RPM for two hours and 1000 RPM for four, eighteen hours in all. The first step doubles as the priming speed, and CaliMar notes most installs prime below full speed, so it asks the installer to test that setting more than once and adjust it to the pool.
Can my automation system control a CaliMar pump's speed?
The CaliFlow's manual has the wiring: RS485 and relay inputs, and the panel picks a programmed speed by closing one. CaliMar marks that wiring for its external control models only, so check the pump has the control connector first. The CMARVSP manual describes no speed inputs, only the pump's own keypad schedule, so with automation it runs whatever schedule is set on the pump while the panel switches its power.
How long is the warranty on a CaliMar pool pump?
One year from the date of purchase, covering defects in materials and workmanship, for the original buyer at the original home. Both CaliMar manuals say commercial use voids it, and that labor and shipping to and from CaliMar are not covered. Damage from wrong voltage, poor water chemistry or running the pump without enough water is excluded too.
