Product details

The CaliMar CMARVSP2.0 is the 2 HP model in CaliMar's CMARVSP line of variable speed pumps for inground pools, one size below the 3 HP. It needs 230V single phase at 50 or 60 Hz, turns from 450 to 3,450 RPM, and has a 2 in. port on each side.

Motor and pump

A TEFC (totally enclosed, fan cooled) premium efficiency variable speed motor drives it. CaliMar molds the volute and strainer pot as a single part to cut hydraulic noise, and fits a see-through lid over the basket. The controller housing is rated IPX6 for rain and UV, the pump is ETL listed for the US and Canada, and ENERGY STAR certifies it at a WEF of 8.4.

Controls

The keypad sets the clock, a four speed daily schedule, a Quick Clean run and the priming speed. A speed button pressed while the pump runs overrides the schedule for that speed's set time, then hands back. CaliMar's guide describes no automation speed inputs, so automation can switch its power while the speeds come from the pump's own schedule.

Before you buy

At 3,450 RPM, CaliMar's curve gives about 85 GPM at 50 feet of head. It draws 8 A at 230V, and CaliMar wants it wired in permanently by a licensed electrician on a GFCI protected circuit. The one year warranty covers materials and workmanship for the original buyer in residential use; commercial use voids it and labor is not covered.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What replacement parts does CaliMar list for the CMARVSP2.0?
Three are its own in CaliMar's parts list: impeller FB2020-IA, motor FB2020-M and motor drive FB2020-MD. The rest are shared across the guide's pumps, among them the strainer cover kit FB2010-SCK, basket FB2010-B, seal assembly FB2010-SA, the 2 in. pump housing FB2010-PH and the drain plugs with gaskets, FB2010-DPG.
How many GPM does a 2 HP CaliMar variable speed pump move?
About 110 GPM against 30 feet of head and about 85 GPM against 50 feet, at the full 3,450 RPM, read from CaliMar's curve for the CMARVSP2.0; at zero flow the curve starts near 82 feet. At the slower speeds a schedule mostly uses, flow and head both fall, and the guide plots those too, at 3,100, 2,500 and 1,500 RPM.
How do you winterize a CaliMar CMARVSP2.0 pump?
Stop it with the Start/Stop button and switch off its breaker, then drain the housing by taking out its two thumb-twist drain plugs; CaliMar suggests keeping them in the pump basket. Cover the motor against rain, snow and ice, but never wrap it airtight in plastic. CaliMar's warranty excludes freeze damage, and in a mild area with a brief freeze it suggests running the pump all night.
What does error E-08 mean on a CaliMar variable speed pump?
Under voltage. CaliMar's guide shows E-08 when the supply falls below 200 V, the bottom of the pump's operating range. A passing dip clears itself; if it keeps returning, look for sag from the wiring or the supply. To clear any alarm, disconnect the power, wait until every keypad light has gone out, then reconnect.
