Product details

The Blue Wave NS430 is a rectangular Spaceage solar cover in 8 mil blue and silver. It is a heavy gauge cover, thicker than the thin single season blankets, and it is built around a thermal bubble layer.

How it heats

The blue and silver film is chosen to let the most solar energy through to the water. The bubbles underneath then hold that heat in overnight and through cool cloudy days, when an uncovered pool gives most of it back to the air. The manufacturer rates the gain at as much as 15 degrees F. The cover also cuts evaporation, which is where most of the heat and a good share of the water loss goes.

Life and care

The material is UV protected so it survives direct summer sun rather than going brittle in one season, and the cover carries a 5 year warranty. Float it bubble side down, and pull it out of the water when you shock the pool, since concentrated chemical sitting under a cover is the fastest way to ruin one.
