Product details

This is the Blue/Silver Spaceage solar cover cut for a 24 foot round above ground pool. It floats on the surface, bubble side down, and works as a passive heater.

How it heats

The blue over silver face is chosen to let as much solar energy as possible through to the water, and the bubble layer underneath traps the warm surface layer so it does not escape after dark or on a cool, cloudy day. Midwest Canvas rates the gain at up to 15 degrees F. The result you get follows the weather and how many hours a day you keep the cover on.

The other half of the job

Most of the heat a pool loses goes out through evaporation. A cover on the water stops that, which is why a covered pool holds temperature overnight and needs less top up water. Less evaporation also means less sanitizer lost to the air.

Looking after it

The material is UV protected so it stands up to intense sunlight. Keep it off hot concrete when it is folded, rinse the debris off before rolling it up, and it will last considerably longer than a cover left in a heap at the side of the pool.
