This is a clear 12 mil solar cover cut for 30 foot round above ground pools, carrying a 5 year warranty.
How a solar cover works
The bubbles face down against the water. During the day the clear material lets sunlight through to the pool instead of bouncing it off the surface, and at night the cover sits as a barrier between warm water and cool air. Most of a pool's heat loss is evaporation off an open surface, so simply having a cover on overnight is what keeps the water from giving back what it gained.
Fitting it
Covers are supplied square or round to the nominal pool size and are trimmed to fit. Lay the cover on the water, let it settle, then cut it back to the wall line with scissors. Take it off before swimming, and keep it out of direct sun when it is off the pool.
