How the control works
Pressing the button squeezes air down a length of tubing to an air switch at the equipment pack, and that switch does the actual electrical work. Because the button carries only air, nothing live reaches the wet surface where the bather touches it.
When to replace it
Buttons crack, take on water and lose their spring long before the switch behind them fails. If the equipment no longer responds to a press, replacing the button is the cheap first move.
