Product details

APi Revive! is a multi-action pool phosphate remover made by APi Water. One treatment removes phosphates (algae food), metals including copper and iron, scaling carbonates and organic debris, the contaminants that cloud water and stain pool surfaces, so it does the work of a phosphate remover, a metal remover and a pool clarifier. It needs no pre-balancing or pre-treating, and it is compatible with all pool chemicals, sanitizers and finishes.

What it removes

  • Phosphates, orthophosphates up to 2,000 ppb in one start up dose. Algae feed on them, so removing them takes away the food rather than fighting the bloom.
  • Copper and iron, up to 2.0 ppm, the metals that stain a finish. City water and well water both bring them in.
  • Scaling carbonates, which protects new plaster and a salt system's equipment from scale.
  • Organic debris, which it settles to the floor to vacuum out, so the water clears.

Use it for

  • New pool start ups, replaster and remodel refills, and top-offs
  • Spring openings, including pools whose cover failed over the winter
  • Clean ups of cloudy or green pools, after you brush and shock
  • Pools filled from a well, and salt water pools, to keep scale off the salt system's equipment

Sizes

Size Package Treats
Start Up/Clean Up 32 oz sprayer 32 fl oz bottle with a hose-end sprayer up to 24,000 gal
Start Up/Clean Up 1 gallon jug 128 fl oz jug with a screw cap up to 96,000 gal

Every size is the same Revive! formula. The 32 oz sprayer clips to a garden hose and spreads it over the whole surface; the jug has a screw cap, for pouring a start up dose or measuring smaller ones, and costs less per ounce.

How to use it

  • New fill: pour it into the deep end as filling begins, 32 oz per 24,000 gallons. It treats the source water as the level rises.
  • Clean up: brush the walls and shock first, and circulate for about an hour. Turn the pump off and spray it over the surface with the hose-end sprayer, 32 oz per 24,000 gallons. Let the debris settle, typically 24 hours, then vacuum the floor to waste, clean the filter and balance the water.
  • Weekly: APi doses the same formula at 4 oz per 10,000 gallons a week, and whenever you top the pool off with the garden hose. Measure it from the jug.

Use a double dose for severe algae, a pool that has not been opened for more than a year, a mudslide or storm damage, or a winter cover that failed, and expect a second application. In cold water it works slower: allow several days. If the pool is not clear after 24 hours, spray the surface once or twice with plain hose water to break the surface tension and send the particles down.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What are phosphates in a pool?
A nutrient algae feed on: APi calls them algae food. Revive! removes orthophosphates up to 2,000 ppb in one start up dose.
What causes high phosphates in a pool?
Mostly the water itself. APi says fill water, from a city supply or a well, carries phosphates along with metals, minerals and organic debris, and every top-off with the garden hose adds more.
How do you lower phosphates in a pool?
With a phosphate remover. Revive! Start Up/Clean Up removes orthophosphates up to 2,000 ppb: 32 oz per 24,000 gallons, sprayed over the surface or poured in as a new fill begins. A weekly dose of 4 oz per 10,000 gallons keeps them low through the season.
What does a phosphate remover do in a pool?
It takes phosphates out of the water, so algae have less to feed on. Revive! also removes copper and iron, captures scaling carbonates and clears organic debris, so it does the work of a phosphate remover, a metal remover and a clarifier.
Does a phosphate remover kill algae?
No. Revive! removes phosphates, the food algae live on, and clears the debris out of the water. It does not kill algae. On a green pool, brush and shock first, then use Revive! to clear what is left, and keep your sanitizer in range.
Can you swim after adding Revive! to a pool?
APi publishes no swim wait for Revive!. After a start up or clean up dose the pump stays off while the debris settles, typically 24 hours, and the floor is vacuumed to waste, so swim after that.
How do I use Revive! on a green or cloudy pool?
Brush the walls and shock the pool, then circulate for about an hour. Turn the pump off and spray Revive! over the whole surface with the hose-end sprayer, 32 oz per 24,000 gallons. Let it settle, typically 24 hours, vacuum to waste, clean the filter and balance the water. Severe algae takes a double dose and may need a second application.
How much Revive! do I need?
32 oz per 24,000 gallons for a start up or clean up, so the 1 gallon jug treats up to 96,000. Double it for severe algae, a pool unopened for more than a year, storm or mudslide damage, or a failed winter cover. For upkeep, APi doses 4 oz per 10,000 gallons a week.
How do I use it on a new fill?
Pour it into the deep end as filling begins, 32 oz per 24,000 gallons. It treats the source water as the level rises. When the pool is full, vacuum any settled debris and start your normal water care.
Do I have to balance the water first?
No. Revive! needs no pre-balancing or pre-treating, and it will not cloud the water or clog the filter. Balance the water after the debris settles and you have vacuumed.
Can I use Revive! in a salt water pool?
Yes. It is compatible with all sanitizers, and APi calls it an ideal treatment for keeping scale off a salt system's equipment, because it captures the scaling carbonates.
Is Revive! good for well water?
Yes. Well water often brings copper and iron, and Revive! removes them up to 2.0 ppm, along with the phosphates and debris fill water carries.
Why isn't my pool clear a day after adding Revive! to it?
Heavy contamination can hold the particles at the surface. Spray the surface once or twice with plain garden hose water to break the tension and send them down. Revive! also works slower in cold water, so allow several days.
What is the difference between the 32 oz sprayer and the 1 gallon jug?
Only the package. Both are the same Revive! formula. The 32 oz bottle has a hose-end sprayer that spreads it over the whole surface and treats 24,000 gallons. The jug holds 128 oz with a screw cap, treats up to 96,000 gallons and costs less per ounce.
Should I use Revive! with E-Z Pool?
Yes. The E-Z Pool label's start up step treats the water with Revive! first, to remove phosphates, metals and debris. Once the debris settles, vacuum, balance the water and begin the weekly E-Z Pool dose.
What ingredients does Revive! use?
APi does not publish the formula; its distributors list the ingredients as a trade secret. Revive! is a clear, colorless liquid, made in the USA.
