Pool Season Alkalinity Up is a granular balancer supplied in a 25 lb box. It is 100 percent sodium hydrogen carbonate, the standard product for bringing low total alkalinity back up.
What alkalinity does
Total alkalinity is the buffer that holds pH steady. When it drops too low, pH moves sharply with every dose of acid or shock, and that instability is what leads to plaster staining, etched surfaces and corroded metal fittings. Water that will not hold a pH reading almost always has an alkalinity problem underneath it.
Using it
Broadcast the granules across the surface with the pump running so they disperse and dissolve, then let the water turn over and retest before adding more. Once alkalinity is in range, pH settles and the sanitizer works at the strength you are paying for.
