Why hardness matters
Calcium hardness is the third reading in the balance set, alongside pH and total alkalinity, and it is the one most often left alone. Water that is short on calcium does not stay short. It takes calcium from the nearest source, which is your plaster, your grout, your tile line and your metal fittings. Etched surfaces, crumbling grout and corroded equipment are the visible end of that process.
Using it
Test first, then dose from the label directions for your pool volume and your current reading. Because this is a granular balancer, it goes in, circulates and is retested rather than being added on a schedule. Getting hardness into range also makes staining less likely, since balanced water is far less inclined to mark the pool.
