Product details

This is a sodium bisulfate pH decreaser for swimming pools and spas, supplied as three 1.5 lb bottles for 4.5 lb in total.

What it does

Pool pH drifts up over time, and high pH is what makes chlorine sluggish, water cloudy and surfaces prone to scale. Sodium bisulfate is the dry acid form of pH decreaser, and it brings the reading back down without the handling problems of liquid muriatic acid.

Dosing

One pound, sixteen ounces, lowers pH from 7.8 or 8.0 to 7.2 in 10,000 gallons. Work out your own dose from your pool volume and how far the reading has drifted, then let the water turn over completely and retest before you add any more. Overshooting on the way down means adding increaser to climb back, and chasing the number in both directions is how people end up with wildly swinging chemistry.

Handling

It is still an acid, just in dry form. Add product to water and never water to product, broadcast it slowly over a running return so it disperses instead of piling up on the floor, and keep the pump running while it mixes. Store the unopened bottles dry and away from other pool chemicals.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How much do I add?
One pound, which is sixteen ounces, lowers pH from 7.8 or 8.0 down to 7.2 in 10,000 gallons. Scale that to your own volume and how far the pH has drifted.
Why three bottles instead of one container?
It ships as three 1.5 lb bottles, 4.5 lb in total. Smaller bottles are easier to dose from and easier to store, and an unopened bottle keeps better than a partly used sack.
What is actually in it?
Sodium bisulfate, the dry acid form of pH decreaser.
How do I add it safely?
Treat it as an acid. Add product to water, never the other way around, and broadcast it slowly over a return with the pump running so it disperses instead of settling on the pool floor. Let the water turn over fully, then retest before you add any more.
