Product details

The S.R. Smith SR-100 is a stainless steel spa rail: a ring shaped handrail on a welded mounting plate that bolts to the deck beside the spa. It gives bathers something solid to hold while they step into and out of the water.

Construction

The rail is 304 grade stainless tubing, 1.625 in. OD with a .049 in. wall, with its bends formed on a 6 in. radius. This 304 version is not listed as salt friendly. S.R. Smith also makes the rail in 316L marine grade, ordered with an -MG suffix, which is the grade to consider next to a salt water spa.

Installation

S.R. Smith specifies four mounting bolts and leaves their selection to the installer, because the right fastener depends on the deck material and the site. Have the rail bonded as your local electrical code requires for metal near the water.

Finish

How is the SR-100 mounted?
It stands on a welded mounting plate that bolts to the deck. S.R. Smith calls for four mounting bolts and leaves the bolt type to be chosen for the deck and site, so plan the fasteners around your deck construction.
Can I use it beside a salt water spa?
This SR-100 is the 304 stainless version, which is not listed as salt friendly. For a salt system, S.R. Smith makes the same spa rail in 316L marine grade, ordered with an -MG suffix.
What size is the tubing?
1.625 in. OD with a .049 in. wall, bent on a 6 in. radius. That is slimmer than the 1.90 in. OD tubing S.R. Smith uses on its pool stair rails, so grips or covers sized for 1.90 in. rails will not fit it.
