Shockwave granular pool shock comes in a 1 lb bag of 68% calcium hypochlorite, which carries 65% available chlorine. It is the bag size most owners reach for when a pool needs a sharp chlorine boost.
Dosing
Use one bag for every 10,000 gallons of pool water. A 20,000 gallon pool takes two bags, and so on. The bag is already measured, so there is nothing to weigh or estimate.
What it is for
Routine sanitizer keeps a balanced pool clear. Shocking is the step above that: it pushes the chlorine level well past the normal range for a short time to kill algae, bacteria and other contaminants, and to clear the water after heavy use, a storm or a stretch of hot weather.
Handling
