Product details

Clearview Shimmer-N' Shock, part CVDB001, is a 1 lb pouch of granular pool shock made from 99% sodium dichlor with 55% available chlorine, used to super chlorinate swimming pools, including vinyl lined and above ground pools, against bacteria and algae.

What it does

Sodium dichlor is a fast dissolving, stabilized form of chlorine. Shimmer-N' Shock goes straight into the pool without pre-dissolving, dissolves completely without residue, and Clearview says it does not cause pH bounce. Shock with it when the water turns hazy, after heavy rain, in very hot weather or after a lot of swimmers, or use smaller doses to hold free chlorine between 1 and 3 ppm.

How much to use

Each ounce adds about 0.4 ppm of chlorine to 10,000 gallons. For a shock the directions call for 14 oz per 10,000 gallons, about 6 ppm. At start up, 10 oz per 10,000 gallons raises free chlorine about 4 ppm, and a 5 oz maintenance dose raises it about 2 ppm. Balance the water first, with pH at 7.2 to 7.6 and total alkalinity of at least 125 ppm.

Before you use it

Add it in the evening with the filter running, broadcast over a wide area of the deep end, and brush out any granules that settle. Keep swimmers out until chlorine falls below 4 ppm. Dichlor breaks down into cyanuric acid as well as chlorine, so regular use raises stabilizer and is worth testing for. Store the pouch cool and dry, away from acids and other chemicals, and never let water get into an opened container.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How much pool water does a 1 lb pouch of Clearview Shimmer-N' Shock treat?
The shock rate is 14 oz per 10,000 gallons for about 6 ppm, and each ounce adds about 0.4 ppm to 10,000 gallons. The 16 oz CVDB001 pouch is therefore sized for a shock of roughly 10,000 gallons, and the directions say to use the whole pouch once it is opened.
Do I need to pre-dissolve Shimmer-N' Shock?
No. CVDB001 goes directly into the pool: broadcast it evenly over a wide area of the deep end in the evening with the filter running, and brush out any granules that settle.
Is Shimmer-N' Shock safe for a vinyl liner or above ground pool?
Yes. Clearview recommends this sodium dichlor shock for vinyl lined and above ground pools, and it dissolves completely without residue. Brush any granules that settle so they do not sit on the liner.
When can we swim after shocking with CVDB001?
Once the chlorine has dropped below 4 ppm. The label prohibits swimming above that level, so test the water before anyone goes back in.
